If there's one mistake you shouldn't make when understanding the Piniol project, it's to put the spectacular side of the formula before the music itself. Because on paper, this 7-headed hydra will necessarily stand out in the hexagonal musical landscape. Where the current canons aim for ever greater simplicity (both in the formula and in the music precisely), Piniol does not set limits. Spontaneous meeting of two formations (Poil and Ni), Piniol (you will appreciate the anagram) has since its beginnings chosen to occupy unbridled and free musical fields (noise, jazz, avant-rock, math) while cultivating a permanent research and a perpetual motion, such as only seven brains can produce. On stage, there are 2 bass guitar and battery trios, one in the garden, the other in the courtyard, separated by a keyboardist, central element and converging point which create a strange impression. Do we see double? Yes and no and it is probably this uncertainty that invites loss of meaning and a certain abandonment. The one required by music as out of format, both terribly thoughtful and (in)voluntarily primal as that which resonates on Bran Coucou, a new album produced and released by the Lyon collective Dur Et Doux. From frontal and voluble pieces to arid and collected passages, Piniol does not choose between maxi and minimalism and affirms its singularity in its syncretic approach of musical extremes that one could have considered complicated to accommodate at first sight In the end, it is a good surprise: Bran Coucou is surprisingly easy to digest and only makes you want to see the ensemble on stage. Because it is undoubtedly the favorite playground of this unique division (accompanied by the sound creations of Florian Bardet and Judiacel Brun, and scenography/lighting by Pierre Josserand) which make each performance a real immersive auditory and visual experience. As you will have understood, the Piniol labyrinth has several entrance doors but only one exit: ecstasy. Adrian Durand
